On May 24, 1999, people around the world came together at one moment in time for one purpose. We stopped what we were doing and quietly observed two minutes of silence for peace in the Balkans.
This was not a statement against the United States, or against the Kosovars, or against the Serbians. It was not about national borders and governments at all -- it was about the value of individual human life and liberty. It was a gesture of peace and good will for all men, women, and children.
More than 25,400 people observed the moment of silence and announced this to the world by signing their names to this Web page. Click here to browse through the signatures.
