Why "Henry Hazlitt"?

We are named in honor of the late Henry Hazlitt because his qualities and achievements are ones that our organization tries to emulate.

Henry Hazlitt (1894-1993) was one of the great free-market advocates of the 20th century. He introduced millions to the ideas of liberty through his classic book "Economics in One Lesson" and his estimated 10,000 reviews, articles, and essays in publications such as The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and Newsweek.

Hazlitt had a friendly, accessible way of introducing people to liberty. He also didn't have qualms about repeating himself and re-packaging important ideas. He reached a wide audience, but he was still respected as a scholar.

He was also known for introducing libertarians to each other. He was a great "networker," responsible for introducing great economists like F.A. Hayek and Ludwig von Mises to the American community. He also helped establish important early institutions -- especially the Foundation for Economic Education.

Hazlitt was well-liked and personable. He was respected across the libertarian movement. He didn't alienate himself from other conservatives and libertarians who believed in essentially the same ideas.

In summary, "Henry Hazlitt" is a name worth trying to live up to. That is what we do.
