Ellen is one of the key volunteers that is making available UnitedHeroes.com.

Ellen Pifer runs Pifer Communications, a full service marketing and communications firm that is comprised of freelance senior-level advertising pros -- marketing mavens, art directors, copywriters, web designers, and PR pros working together. She "gets it" because she's sat on both sides of that conference room table as a demanding client and as an agency marketing whiz.

With her strong analytical abilities and creative flair (call it a right brain/left brain merger), Ellen began her "Obsession" with the ad biz at Calvin Klein Cosmetics in 1988. Next stop -- the account management training program at Y&R on Madison Ave. where she cut her teeth and survived on mac & cheese. At FCB Philadelphia her number crunching proved to the suits at The PA Lottery that advertising works and secured a huge budget increase. With the promise of more creative challenges, Ellen left the agency biz to become Communications Director for a community hospital. The work was terrific but the agency-life was addictive and soon she was lured back -- to RBT in Cherry Hill, NJ., where she slaved as Account Supervisor on all the agency's healthcare accounts. One year and a case of Advil later, Ellen was offered a fellowship in Temple University's Journalism Department. She accepted, and in 1996, while pursuing her Masters, formed Pifer Communications -- a full-service marketing and communications firm.

Along the way in her broad repertoire, Ellen counts among her contented clients: Certs, Advil, DuPont and Kodak as well as The PA Lottery, ARAMARK, Proteus Consulting, Hahnemann Hospital, Atlantic City Medical Center, St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, The Montgomery Grill, Interfaith Clergy, and Temple University Heath System.

Ellen is a graduate of The Johns Hopkins University. She is married to Eric Pifer, a brilliant University of Pennsylvania physician and medical informatics visionary (he wrote that); they have two young sons who love dinosaurs and balloons.

Ellen can be reached at e2pifer@earthlink.net.
